> The Combined Nomenclature (CN) is the European Union's eight-digit goods classification system.

The Combined Nomenclature (CN) is the European Union's eight-digit goods classification system. It extends the six-digit Harmonized System (HS) of the WCO with two additional digits that capture EU-specific tariff rates, tariff quotas, trade statistics requirements, and trade policy measures at a more granular level. Every customs declaration for EU external trade requires the correct eight-digit CN code; misclassification can result in post-clearance duty assessments and shipment delays. The CN also serves as the classification basis for Intrastat reporting on intra-EU goods movements. It should not be confused with TARIC, which builds on the CN and encodes additional EU measures through further subdivisions.
