Freight forwarders and 3PL providers operate co-loading warehouses to accumulate LTL (less-than-truckload) and LCL (less-than-container-load) consignments from multiple shippers and combine them into a cost-effective full load. Inbound freight is sorted by destination region or transport mode, held briefly, and dispatched together by road, sea, or air. Dwell times are kept deliberately short: the facility is a consolidation hub, not a storage site. It differs from a distribution warehouse, which serves last-mile delivery to end consignees, and from a cross-dock facility, where goods transfer without any warehousing step.
