When a freight forwarder wants to consolidate shipments from multiple shippers on the same route, a co-load agreement defines the terms of that shared loading arrangement. Each shipper is allocated their share of space and weight within the vehicle or container and invoiced for exactly that portion. The arrangement cuts per-shipment freight costs significantly while reducing the total number of vehicle movements—a benefit for both operating budgets and carbon emissions. Unlike standard parcel consolidation services, co-load agreements typically apply to larger part-loads—LTL (less-than-truckload) in road freight and LCL (less-than-container load) in ocean freight—with individually negotiated rates and clearly defined liability boundaries for each participating shipper.
