Class 3 dangerous goods are flammable liquids – substances with a flash point not exceeding 60 °C, tested in a closed cup as defined by the UN Model Regulations. Petrol, ethanol, acetone, and a wide range of industrial solvents fall into this category. All Class 3 consignments must bear the red flame hazard label; packaging standards, quantity limits, and documentation requirements are governed by the applicable modal regulation: ADR (road), RID (rail), the IMDG Code (sea), or IATA-DGR (air). Air freight imposes the tightest controls – quantity thresholds are strictly capped, and certain Class 3 substances are entirely prohibited on passenger aircraft. Class 3 is distinct from Class 4, which covers flammable solids, spontaneously combustible substances, and materials that react dangerously with water.
