Class 3 flammable liquids are substances with a flash point below 60 °C that produce ignitable vapours at ambient temperatures and ignite readily from sparks, heat, or open flames. Common examples include petrol, ethanol, acetone, and paint thinners. Based on flash point and boiling point, each substance is assigned to one of three packing groups – Group I (greatest hazard) through Group III – which directly governs container specifications, vehicle approvals, and labelling requirements. In freight practice, shippers and forwarders must ensure properly sealed and marked packaging and trained, certified drivers; any leak risks environmental liability and regulatory penalties. Class 3 should not be confused with Class 2 (flammable gases) or Class 4 (flammable solids).
