CKD storage holds completely knocked-down components – all individual parts of complex products such as vehicles or industrial machinery that have been fully disassembled for shipment and are awaiting final assembly at a local manufacturing facility. The warehouse acts as the critical link between international freight and the assembly line: parts are received, checked, sequenced, and staged in the order required for production. The CKD approach reduces freight costs through higher packing density and can lower import duties in destination markets where locally assembled goods attract preferential tariff treatment. It is most common in the automotive industry but also used for heavy machinery and consumer electronics. Unlike SKD (semi knocked down), CKD means complete disassembly down to individual components.
