A call-off contract gives buyers flexibility over delivery quantities and timing while locking in agreed prices, quality standards, and terms for the entire contract period. Rather than placing a single large purchase order, the buyer triggers individual deliveries through separate call-off orders – a model widely used in high-volume industrial procurement and public tendering. For freight forwarders, each call-off typically constitutes a distinct consignment requiring its own transport documentation and, in cross-border trade, its own customs declaration. The supplier's delivery obligation arises only upon receipt of each individual call-off, not at the time the framework agreement is signed. This distinguishes the call-off contract from a blanket order, under which the full quantity is committed upfront.
