The "DaziT business case" is the cost-benefit rationale with which Switzerland justified investing in the digitalisation of its customs service (the DaziT programme): it weighs the cost of new IT, systems and training against the expected benefits of simpler, fully digital customs processes. For private individuals it means, in simple terms, less paper and faster clearance at the border. For professionals (freight forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading companies) and the administration: on 12 September 2017 the Swiss Federal Assembly approved a total commitment credit of around CHF 393 million, released in four tranches, financing the DaziT programme and its seven projects from 2018 to 2026. The goal is the full transformation of the former Federal Customs Administration (EZV) into the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG), with automated, media-break-free processes — including replacing the legacy systems (e-dec, NCTS) with the new Passar goods-traffic system, a central customer portal (ePortal) and mobile applications. The expected benefits are shorter processing times, less manual effort and staff efficiency gains that can be redirected to control and border-security tasks. Distinction: the business case is the economic justification of the programme — not the DaziT programme itself, nor the individual target system Passar. Roadmap and cost figures are planning values and may change. Related terms: DaziT, BAZG, Passar, e-dec, ePortal, customs declaration, goods declaration. As of: June 2026.
