A box trailer – also known as a van trailer – is a fully enclosed semi-trailer with rigid walls, a fixed roof and rear doors, pulled by a tractor unit. The solid structure reliably protects general cargo, retail goods and industrial products from weather, theft and transit damage. Compared to curtainsiders, box trailers provide greater load security and efficient dock loading, but are less suited to oversized cargo or side forklift access. They are standard equipment in European general cargo and retail distribution; mega trailers extend the interior length while adding extra internal height to maximise cubic capacity.
