Stacker cranes, shuttle systems, or conveyor networks execute put-away and retrieval fully automatically on instruction from the warehouse management system (WMS). Because staff never need to enter the rack levels directly, error rates and workplace injuries drop sharply. High-bay warehouses are most common where expensive land demands maximum use of building height, or where throughput volumes make manual operation uneconomical – typical sectors include food logistics, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce fulfilment.
