Authorised exporter (AE) status gives a business the right to make out proofs of preferential origin – typically origin declarations on commercial invoices – without involving customs authorities for each individual shipment. Customs grant this status only after a thorough assessment of the applicant's compliance history, accounting systems, and internal controls. In day-to-day export operations, the result is faster clearance and a leaner documentation process. The authorised exporter should not be confused with the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO): while both require compliance vetting, AE status is specifically limited to the self-certification of preferential origin and does not confer the broader customs simplifications associated with AEO. In return, holders must maintain exhaustive records and accept periodic audits by customs authorities.
