The assembly of freight consolidation units is a logistics procedure in which a service provider combines multiple individual shipments from different consignors into a single transport unit – such as a container, trailer, or pallet. The objective is to maximise load utilisation and thereby reduce the freight cost per shipment. In sea freight this corresponds to Less than Container Load (LCL); in road transport, to Less than Truckload (LTL). The provider is responsible for sorting, documentation, and liability separation between the individual shipments. Not to be confused with Full Container Load (FCL) or Full Truckload (FTL), where a single shipper occupies the entire capacity.
