When a picker arrives at the expected bin and the item is not there, the article storage location record is incorrect – and fulfillment stalls. An article storage location is the uniquely addressed position within a warehouse where a specific SKU or item is physically held, for example 'Building 2, Aisle B, Rack 4, Bin 3'. Warehouse management systems (WMS) use these coordinates to generate pick instructions, conduct cycle counts, and control goods flow. Unlike a storage zone, which covers an entire area, an article storage location identifies a single, precisely defined slot. Accurate maintenance of location data is a prerequisite for inventory precision and efficient warehouse operations.
