In plain terms: the BAZG API Portal is the technical entry point through which a company connects its own software (ERP, forwarding, or customs system) directly to Swiss customs – without manually keying data into a web interface. The BAZG API Portal (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security) allows freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and customs brokers to connect their own business systems directly to Switzerland's digital customs procedures. Rather than manually entering data into web portals, connected systems submit goods declarations and transport declarations, query clearance status, and receive responses (e.g. selection result, assessment decision) fully automatically via standardised interfaces. API integration is a core component of Switzerland's customs digitalisation under the DaziT programme and provides the technical foundation for connecting to the Passar goods-traffic system across import, export, and transit operations. For companies with high declaration volumes, it substantially reduces manual workload and minimises data transmission errors. Access and permissions are managed through the BAZG ePortal and the BAZG business partner roles; personal login is via AGOV. Distinct from manual data entry in the Declar and e-dec Web applications, which require no system connection of their own.
