ACE, the Automated Commercial Environment, is the single-window electronic platform operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to process all U.S. import and export transactions. Through ACE, importers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers submit entry filings, cargo manifests, and duty payments, and receive cargo release authorizations via the same interface. Shipment data is automatically screened against CBP risk-assessment algorithms, enabling immediate release or targeted referral for physical examination. Use of ACE is mandatory for all parties engaged in U.S. trade; it has largely replaced the legacy Automated Commercial System (ACS). The acronym refers exclusively to this CBP platform and should not be confused with other trade or industry systems sharing the same abbreviation.
