Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) is a statistical sampling inspection method that defines the maximum number of defective units permitted per sample for a given lot size. Standards such as ISO 2859 and ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 govern sample sizes along with the corresponding acceptance and rejection thresholds. In freight and procurement operations, AQL allows consignees to screen large shipments cost-effectively without inspecting every single unit.
