Palau (ISO-Code PW) ist ein Inselstaat im westlichen Pazifik in der Region Mikronesien und eine präsidiale Republik. Das Klima ist tropisch-maritim mit hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit und einer Regenzeit von Juli bis Oktober. Wirtschaftlich dominieren Tourismus, Fischerei und Dienstleistungen; das Land ist stark importabhängig. Eingeführt werden vor allem Nahrungsmittel, Treibstoff, Konsumgüter und Baumaterialien, während der Export auf Fischprodukte konzentriert ist. Die Aussenhandelslogistik läuft über den Malakal Commercial Port bei Koror sowie den Roman Tmetuchl International Airport (ROR) und ist über regionale Linien mit Guam und Asien verbunden. Seit dem 1. Januar 2023 erhebt Palau eine Palau Goods and Services Tax (PGST) von 10 Prozent; hinzu kommt eine Einfuhrsteuer von 3 Prozent auf den FOB-Wert der meisten Handelswaren. Die Zollabwicklung erfolgt durch das Bureau of Customs and Border Protection über ASYCUDA World. Landeswährung ist der US-Dollar. Palau unterhält seit 1994 einen Compact of Free Association mit den USA.
