Im Aussenhandel dominiert der Export von Rohstoffen und Agrarprodukten, während Importe von Maschinen, Elektronik, Konsumgütern und Treibstoffen die Importabhängigkeit erhöhen. Die logistische Bedeutung ergibt sich durch Häfen wie Yangon und Thilawa, die als regionale Handelsdrehscheiben fungieren. Myanmar besitzt zudem strategische Transitfunktionen für den Landhandel zwischen China, Indien und Südostasien. Die Landeswährung ist der Kyat (MMK). Infrastrukturprojekte, darunter Eisenbahn- und Strassennetze, zielen darauf ab, die wirtschaftliche Anbindung und die logistische Effizienz zu verbessern.
