Laos (ISO-Code: LA) liegt in Südostasien und grenzt an China, Vietnam, Kambodscha, Thailand und Myanmar. Politisch ist das Land eine sozialistische Volksrepublik mit zentralisierter Staatsführung. Das Klima ist tropisch-monsunal, geprägt von einer Regenzeit zwischen Mai und Oktober sowie einer trockenen Saison von November bis April. Wirtschaftlich ist Laos stark agrarisch geprägt, wobei Elektrizität aus Wasserkraft zunehmend zur Exportware wird. Der Aussenhandel konzentriert sich auf Energie, Holzprodukte, landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse und Textilien, während das Land stark auf Importe von Maschinen, Treibstoff und Konsumgütern angewiesen ist. Die Binnenlage schränkt die Transitfunktion ein, dennoch werden Flüsse wie der Mekong als wichtige Transportwege genutzt. Die Landeswährung ist der Laotische Kip (LAK). Infrastrukturprojekte, insbesondere im Bereich Strassen, Schienen und Stromnetze, sollen Logistik und Exportmöglichkeiten verbessern. Laos nimmt eine wachsende Rolle in regionalen Handelsnetzen Südostasiens ein, vor allem im Bereich Energieexport und Rohstoffe. Das Land setzt zunehmend auf internationale Kooperationen, um seine wirtschaftliche Integration zu stärken.
