Sri Lanka (ISO-Code: LK) liegt im Indischen Ozean südlich von Indien und ist eine Inselnation mit strategischer Lage an wichtigen Seehandelsrouten. Politisch ist das Land eine demokratische Republik mit präsidialem Regierungssystem. Das Klima ist tropisch-maritimer mit hohen Temperaturen, hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit und zwei Monsunzeiten von Mai bis September sowie von Dezember bis Februar. Wirtschaftlich basiert Sri Lanka auf Landwirtschaft, Textilindustrie, Bergbau, Tourismus und Dienstleistungen, wobei der Hafen von Colombo als logistische Drehscheibe von grosser Bedeutung ist. Im Aussenhandel exportiert das Land vor allem Tee, Textilien, Kokosprodukte und Edelsteine, während es stark auf Importe von Energie, Maschinen, Rohstoffen und Konsumgütern angewiesen ist. Logistisch verfügt Sri Lanka über moderne Seehäfen, internationale Flughäfen und ein gut ausgebautes Strassen- und Schienennetz, wodurch das Land auch als regionaler Umschlagspunkt dient. Die Landeswährung ist die Sri-Lanka-Rupie (LKR). Strategische Investitionen in Hafeninfrastruktur, Transport und Logistikprojekte fördern die internationale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und die Integration in globale Lieferketten.
