Comoros (ISO code: KM) is an island state in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and the East African coast, made up of the main islands Grande Comore (Ngazidja), Anjouan (Ndzuani) and Mohéli (Mwali). It is a federal presidential republic with limited stability and island-level autonomy. The climate is tropical-maritime with humid summers and a cyclone season. The economy depends heavily on agriculture, fishing and spice exports, above all vanilla, ylang-ylang and cloves, while industrial goods, fuel and consumer products are largely imported. Logistically the country relies on its seaports as the main gateways for imports and regional transhipment; the deep-water port of Mutsamudu on Anjouan handles much of the containerised cargo.
