Hong Kong (ISO code: HK) lies on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Delta and comprises the Kowloon peninsula, Hong Kong Island and numerous smaller islands. It is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China with its own legal and customs system under the 'one country, two systems' principle, though Beijing's influence has been growing. The climate is subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild, drier winters. Hong Kong is a leading global financial centre and one of Asia's most important trade and logistics hubs. As a free port it levies no customs tariff and no VAT, which together with the world's busiest cargo airport (HKIA) and the Kwai Tsing container port makes it a central node for regional and global supply chains. The currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD), pegged to the US dollar.
