> Guernsey is one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel and a British Crown Dependency with broad autonomy and its own administration. It forms a customs union with the United Kingdom, Jersey and the Isle of Man: goods wholly obtained and cleared there arrive duty-free, while goods from the EU and third countries may be liable to import duty. Excise duty applies to alcohol, tobacco and fuel. There is currently no value-added tax; a 3 percent GST has been decided to start on 1 January 2028. The Guernsey Border Agency (Customs and Excise) is responsible. Supply is heavily import-dependent and runs through the ports of St. Peter Port and St. Sampson and Guernsey Airport (GCI), mainly by ferry from England and St. Malo.
