## Description

Designed for 30,000 tonnes of air cargo a year — with a long-term target of 102,000 tonnes — Zhanjiang Wuchuan International Airport (IATA: ZHA) opened in March 2022 as the replacement for Zhanjiang's old downtown airfield. Its single 3,200-metre class 4E runway accommodates wide-body aircraft. Freight currently moves mainly as belly cargo on passenger services to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and other major cities. Zhanjiang in western Guangdong is China's leading shrimp-farming centre and hosts the Baosteel steel complex and major petrochemical plants, generating demand for urgent spare parts and perishable seafood shipments. The city's deep-water seaport, one of southern China's largest, complements the airport for multimodal routings. For intercontinental main-haul capacity, forwarders still rely on Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), about four hours away by road via the G15/G75 expressways.
