## Description

FAYP is no civilian field but Air Force Base Ysterplaat, a South African Air Force installation in north-western Cape Town close to the harbour. It hosts 110 Squadron (light transport), 22 Squadron, the maritime 35 Squadron and 80 Air Navigation School, and long anchored the SAAF's coastal maritime-patrol work. The base handles no commercial freight; the region's air cargo moves through Cape Town International (CPT), about 20 km to the south-east. A branch of the SAAF Museum on site keeps much of that aviation history on display.
