## Description

Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) opened in May 2019 and fully took over from the older Adisutjipto Airport in March 2020, instantly becoming one of Indonesia's largest gateways. Set about 45 km west of the city in Kulon Progo, it was built with a long runway able to handle wide-body aircraft and with modern cargo facilities. That makes YIA genuinely cargo-capable: alongside belly freight on its domestic and international services, the airport runs its own air-cargo handling. It serves the economically strong, tourism-rich part of Central Java around Yogyakarta, home to the Borobudur and Prambanan World Heritage sites. For high-volume or intercontinental shipments the major freight hubs of Jakarta (CGK) and Surabaya (SUB) still lead, but YIA increasingly absorbs regional cargo flows. Rail and expressway links to the city reinforce its multimodal role. For forwarders, YIA is the modern air entry point into the Yogyakarta region.
