## Description

Home base of Xiamen Airlines, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) is one of China's few major island airports, built just off the Fujian coast. Around 27 airlines link XMN with Southeast Asia and, via connections, with Europe, the Americas and Australia. On the cargo side the airport ranked 14th in China in 2025; its 30,000-square-metre freight terminal offers 150,000 tonnes of annual capacity, supplemented by belly space and Southeast Asian freighter services. The Fujian pilot free trade zone and the port of Xiamen, one of the world's largest container ports, open up sea-air options for exporters. Electronics, stone products and regional tea dominate outbound flows, alongside e-commerce traffic across the Taiwan Strait. A major transition lies ahead: the new Xiamen Xiang'an airport under construction is set to replace Gaoqi and add substantial cargo capacity. Until then, XMN remains Fujian's primary airfreight access point.
