## Description

Better known for private jets than for pallets, Vnukovo Andrei Tupolev International Airport (IATA: VKO, ICAO: UUWW) is Europe's busiest airport for international business aviation — yet it is also Moscow's third-largest commercial airport. Opened in 1941 as the capital's first airport, it lies about 28 kilometres southwest of the city centre and handled roughly 16 million passengers in 2024, up 11% and good for third place in Russia behind Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. A dedicated business terminal, Vnukovo-3, serves the private fleet, and government and special flights also operate here. For freight, Cargo Terminal B handles general and oversized consignments, but the bulk of Moscow's air cargo concentrates at Sheremetyevo (SVO), the region's traditional freight hub, leaving Vnukovo a smaller cargo role. Ground access runs via the Kievskoye Highway and the Aeroexpress train to central Moscow. For shippers, VKO is most relevant for express, belly and special cargo, with standard airfreight usually routed through Sheremetyevo.
