## Description

Within the Venice-based SAVE Group's airport system, Verona's Valerio Catullo Airport (IATA: VRN, ICAO: LIPX) handles the passengers while freighters use sister airport Brescia-Montichiari, 50 kilometres to the west. Around 3.7 million travellers passed through the airport at Villafranca di Verona in 2024 (up 7.8%), and in 2025 it broke the 4-million mark for the first time, driven by Lake Garda tourism and ski charters into the Dolomites. The field is named after the Roman poet Catullus, whose family kept a villa on Lake Garda, and the Italian Air Force's 3° Stormo shares the site. Flown cargo stays modest — about 816 tonnes in 2024, up 88% — processed through a dedicated Cargo Center with customs office, temporary storage and a warehouse section subleased to DHL. Ground handling is provided by group-owned GDA Handling, which also works Brescia. For forwarders, the surroundings matter more than the tonnage: Quadrante Europa, Italy's largest freight village and Europe's leading rail interporto, sits a few kilometres away at the junction of the A4 and the Brenner motorway A22. Since October 2025 the SAVE Group has been controlled by investors Ardian and Finint Infrastrutture. Most airfreight from western Veneto therefore trucks to Milan Malpensa or departs via Montichiari.
