## Description

Vava'u is Tonga's whale-watching and yachting centre, and its airport (VAV, also known as Lupepau'u) mainly carries the tourists and supplies that the northern islands depend on. Scheduled service is domestic, operated by Lulutai Airlines to and from Fua'amotu (TBU); the 'International' in the name is largely historic. No freighters call here and there is no cargo terminal — air freight moves as light belly loads such as mail, parts and perishables. Fish and other exports are funnelled south through Fua'amotu and onward at Auckland. Heavier and bulk cargo for Vava'u arrives by sea at the port of Neiafu.
