## Description

Northern Brazil's principal air-freight gateway, Val de Cans/Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport (BEL, ICAO SBBE) handled a good 24,000 tonnes of cargo in 2023. Direct services reach the United States, Suriname, French Guiana and Portugal; for heavy consignments and intercontinental lanes forwarders usually route via the dedicated cargo bases at Guarulhos (GRU) and Viracopos (VCP) in the south-east. Pre- and on-carriage runs over the BR-316 trunk road and the adjacent river port, with the Amazon basin's waterways carrying most traffic into the interior. Shippers of temperature-controlled goods should confirm the limited cold-chain capacity with their handling agent well in advance.
