## Description

Despite sitting beside the world's largest open-pit bauxite mine, Trombetas Airport (TMT) is not an air cargo gateway. Operated by mining company Mineração Rio do Norte, it mainly serves staff rotations and small parcel loads for the Porto Trombetas operation. The bauxite that makes the region valuable travels by river barge from the port down the Amazon to the deep-sea terminal at Vila do Conde, not by air. Freight forwarders needing air capacity in Pará route shipments through Belém International Airport (BEL). In short, TMT is a company and supply airfield rather than a commercial freight node.
