## Description

Hanford built this region: the Manhattan Project site that produced plutonium for the first atomic bombs still employs thousands in its cleanup, and the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco grew alongside it. Today Alaska, Delta, United and Allegiant link Pasco, Kennewick and Richland to hubs across the West, serving engineers, wine tourists and the area's vast potato and frozen-food industry. Freight, however, takes other paths – PSC has no cargo terminal, and shipments move via Pasco's large BNSF classification yard, Columbia-Snake river barges or trucks bound for SEA and Spokane. Few small airports sit this close to three competing freight modes.
