## Description

Opened for soft operations in September 2020 and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in March 2021, Toraja Airport (TRT) replaced the older Pongtiku field high in the South Sulawesi mountains. Its compact 1,152 m² terminal is sized for roughly 45,000 passengers a year, and a single Wings Air route connects it to Makassar (UPG) in about 55 minutes. At an elevation of 2,884 feet, the airport exists to serve tourism — the Toraja highlands and their renowned funeral traditions — rather than freight. There is no cargo terminal or dedicated handling on site. Forwarders route the region's air freight through Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar (UPG), which is Sulawesi's real cargo gateway.
