## Description

After the 1994 eruption buried Rabaul under ash, East New Britain's air traffic shifted to Tokua near Kokopo, which still carries Rabaul's old IATA code, RAB. Air Niugini and PNG Air link the field to Port Moresby and Lae, carrying belly freight — mainly cocoa and copra from one of PNG's prime growing regions. The seaport of Rabaul lies about 24 km away, letting exporters pair air and sea legs. International consignments move via the Port Moresby hub, with customs and biosecurity following national rules. For forwarders, Tokua is the regional collection point for the Gazelle Peninsula.
