## Description

Owned since late 2020 by Albania's Kastrati Group — which paid about 71 million euros to buy it from China Everbright — Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (IATA: TIA, ICAO: LATI) has become Europe's post-pandemic growth phenomenon. The airport at Rinas, roughly 17 kilometres northwest of the capital, handled 7.8 million passengers in the first eight months of 2025 and set a single-day record of 50,892 travellers on 4 August, climbing toward a 12-million target on the back of Wizz Air and the Albanian diaspora. Air cargo, by contrast, stays a niche: a 1,000-square-metre cargo terminal opened in 2007 handles perishables in cold rooms, special loads and dangerous goods around the clock, and TIA Cargo Export is the country's only IATA-accredited member, but volumes amount to a few thousand tonnes a year. Forwarders serving Albania plan accordingly — volume freight moves through the nearby port of Durrës, air cargo is frequently trucked under RFS via Vienna, Budapest or Istanbul, and as a non-EU country Albania requires full customs clearance. Road access runs via the A1 motorway towards Durrës and the expressway into Tirana; there is no rail link. Since 2025 the new Vlora airport on the southern coast has begun absorbing part of the load.
