## Description

Some 42,000 tonnes of relief supplies have moved through Termez to Afghanistan since November 2021, and Termez Airport (TMJ) is one limb of that effort. A 2022 presidential decree turned the city into an international transport and logistics hub combining an airport, a river port, railways and highways running to the Afghan border. Termez sits in the Surkhandarya region, less than two kilometres from Afghanistan along the Amu Darya. At its core is the Termez Cargo Center, able to hold up to 300 trucks and rail-linked directly into Afghanistan. UNHCR runs the site as a Regional Humanitarian Logistics Hub, and the World Food Programme dispatches supplies from here regularly. For forwarders with Afghan business, Termez is the natural transfer point for both aid and commercial freight. A notable detail: the historic Friendship Bridge carries the rail link to Hairatan on the Afghan side.
