## Description

Right on the edge of Coyhaique, Teniente Vidal (GXQ) is the smaller of the Aysén region's two airports. Most of the region's scheduled and freight traffic runs through Balmaceda (BBA), about 50 kilometres away, whose longer runway also takes larger aircraft; GXQ mainly serves regional links, for instance with Aerovías DAP, and general aviation. The field has no commercial cargo handling – goods for remote Patagonia travel as belly loads or via the Carretera Austral and the ferry ports. For planned air freight, Balmaceda (BBA), Puerto Montt (PMC) and the national hub at Santiago (SCL) are the reference points. Forwarders therefore use GXQ as a city-side complement rather than a main node.
