## Description

Around 80,000 tonnes of cargo and mail passed through Tashkent International Airport (TAS/UTTT) in 2024, making it Central Asia's second-busiest air freight location after Almaty. Uzbekistan's airports together were projected to reach roughly 88,000 tonnes across 2025. To keep pace, a new cargo terminal branded UzCargo opened in March 2025 on a 5.2-hectare site with an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes. It combines general warehousing with chilled and frozen storage, an administration building and a dedicated truck staging area. Commodities handled include general cargo, perishables, pharmaceuticals and dangerous goods, with Uzbekistan Airways moving most volume as belly cargo on passenger services. Because Uzbekistan is doubly landlocked, road and rail feeder links through Kazakhstan and neighbouring states matter more than at coastal gateways — the nearest seaports are several days away by land. Shippers looking for pure freighter capacity or transit handling usually turn to Navoi (NVI), some 350 km to the south-west, which is the country's dedicated cargo airport. Almaty (ALA) in Kazakhstan remains the regional alternative and still absorbs the largest share of Central Asian air freight.
