## Description

High in the Pamir Mountains of westernmost Xinjiang, close to the borders of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Tashikuergan Hongqilafu Airport (IATA: HQL) opened in late 2022 at an elevation of about 3,200 metres. It is one of China's highest airfields and handles passenger flights only, chiefly to Kashgar and Ürümqi. There are no cargo facilities. Trade in this corridor – including cross-border flows to Pakistan over the Khunjerab Pass on the Karakoram Highway – moves by road, with Kashgar Airport (KHG) acting as the nearest air cargo option.
