## Description

Despite the "International" in its name, Ta'izz is effectively closed to air traffic: the city in the south-western highlands has been among the war's most fiercely contested places, and the airport has sat outside regular civil operation for years. Perched at about 1,475 m, TAI is ringed by front lines that make flights impossible. It therefore has no air-cargo role; passengers and goods for the region route through Aden, some 250 km to the south, and onward by road to Ta'izz. For forwarders the nearest dependable air gateway is Aden, not Ta'izz. Customs and control depend on the shifting front and on local authorities.
