## Description

Five kilometres from Taipei's government district and ringed by the city itself, Taipei Songshan Airport (IATA: TSA, ICAO: RCSS) is one of Asia's classic downtown airfields. Opened in 1936 and Taiwan's main international airport until Taoyuan took over in 1979, it now handles domestic routes to Kinmen, Penghu and Hualien plus city-shuttle services to Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Gimpo and Shanghai Hongqiao, flown by EVA Air, China Airlines, UNI Air, Mandarin Airlines, ANA and JAL. Freight forwarders should note the dedicated domestic cargo station on the west side of Terminal 2, which processes belly cargo on island routes — useful for urgent spares and documents. There are no freighter operations: international air freight for the Taipei region moves through Taiwan Taoyuan (TPE), about 40 km west and among the world's largest cargo airports with well over two million tonnes a year.
