## Description

Stuttgart Airport (IATA: STR, ICAO: EDDS) serves one of Europe's densest export regions: Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Bosch are at home here, and time-critical automotive and machinery parts shape its cargo business accordingly. In 2025 around 34,500 tonnes of air freight flew directly out of Stuttgart, moving mostly as belly freight or by road feeder service to the Frankfurt and Munich hubs; the air cargo centre on the southern side, customs included, concentrates the handling. Since 2014 the airport has officially carried the name Manfred Rommel Flughafen, honouring Stuttgart's long-serving mayor. Located on the Filder plain about 13 kilometres south of the city centre, it counted some 9.6 million passengers in 2025, with Eurowings dominating the schedule and Delta adding long-haul service to Atlanta. One technical constraint stands out: STR operates a single runway, unusual for a German airport of this size. The site sits directly on the A8 motorway between Karlsruhe and Munich, easing truck access, and the Stuttgart 21 rail project gave the airport its own long-distance station on the new high-speed line to Ulm. Immediately beside the terminal lie the state trade fair grounds, among Germany's largest.
