## Description

Stavanger is Norway's energy capital – Equinor is headquartered here – and its airport at Sola (IATA: SVG, ICAO: ENZV) runs to the rhythm of the offshore industry. Helicopters shuttle from Sola to the North Sea oil and gas platforms; only Bergen counts more rotor movements. With a good four million passengers a year, the airport ranks among Norway's four largest. The cargo business is a niche with a sharp profile: urgent spares, AOG shipments and project cargo for the energy sector, where every hour of platform downtime costs dearly. Regular capacity is limited to belly space and express services; larger volumes truck to Oslo Gardermoen or move as sea freight via the nearby port of Risavika. Access runs via the E39 and Rv509, with the city centre about eleven kilometres to the north-east. Operated by Avinor, the airport opened an expanded terminal area at the end of 2025. Sola holds a place in aviation history twice over: it opened in 1937 as Norway's first civilian land airport, and in April 1940 it became the scene of one of the first paratrooper assaults ever launched against an airport.
