## Description

Unlike the busy commercial fields of southern India, Sri Sathya Sai Airport (PUT) in Puttaparthi is a quiet charter strip built in the early 1990s to serve pilgrims visiting the Sathya Sai Baba ashram. Scheduled flights ceased in 2008, and today the airport handles mainly non-scheduled and seasonal traffic that swells around major spiritual gatherings, such as the centenary events of November 2025. It has no dedicated air-cargo terminal or customs facility. Shippers in the Anantapur district route freight instead through Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru (BLR), roughly 280 km south, which is the region's genuine cargo gateway. PUT therefore remains a specialised passenger and pilgrimage airport with no meaningful freight role.
