## Description

An extended runway able to take wide-bodies up to the Boeing 747 is the defining asset of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, supporting annual Hajj flights and leaving room for future freight. Opened in 2014 and handed fully to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in 2023, the airport sits about 22 km north-west of Bauchi and serves mainly domestic traffic as a base for Overland Airways and Arik Air. A cargo terminal is planned but not yet operating, and no scheduled air freight is documented. For now, forwarders in north-eastern Nigeria consolidate shipments through Kano (KAN), the region's established cargo airport. BCU is best read as a passenger and pilgrimage field with cargo ambitions still on the drawing board.
