## Description

More than 11,000 tonnes of air cargo passed through Sialkot International Airport (SKT) in 2024, against a terminal capacity of around 20,000 tonnes a year. Opened in 2007, it is Pakistan's first and only privately built airport, financed by Sialkot's own business community. The fully automated freight terminal includes a cold room down to −8°C, secure storage for valuables, a dangerous-goods area and a customs examination zone geared to exports. That export base is unusually concentrated: Sialkot supplies the world with surgical instruments, sports goods — including footballs used at World Cups — leather products, textiles and musical instruments. Belly capacity on Gulf carriers complements dedicated cargo handling, lifting these goods to international markets. On-site customs clearance shortens export lead times for the surrounding industrial cluster. By road the airport sits on the Sialkot–Lahore Motorway, with Lahore's international airport about 100 kilometres to the south-west. For forwarders it is the natural air-freight exit for north-eastern Punjab.
