## Description

At 2,580 metres above sea level, Shennongjia Hongping Airport (IATA: HPG, ICAO: ZHSN) is among the highest airfields in central China — its runway was built by levelling mountain ridges. Opened in 2014, it exists for one purpose: flying tourists into the UNESCO-listed Shennongjia forest reserve in Hubei, with a handful of routes such as Wuhan. There is no cargo handling, and the altitude, weather windows and short operating hours rule it out.
