## Description

As the centre of Tunisia's olive-oil trade and a heavyweight of Sahel industry, Sfax gives its airport a genuine freight purpose. Sfax-Thyna opened in 1980 and gained a dedicated cargo terminal in 1996, today offering roughly 6,100 m² of bonded warehousing with transit zone, air-conditioned, chilled and deep-frozen storage plus fumigation. Afriqiyah Airways and Libyan Airlines run scheduled services, linking the city to North African markets. Customs clearance is handled by Tunisian customs within the bonded stores, suiting both perishable and general cargo. The nearby Port of Sfax ships olive oil and phosphate derivatives by sea, so air and maritime routes reinforce one another for exporters. Six kilometres from the city centre, the airport serves the wider Sahel rather than Sfax alone. For forwarders, it is one of the few Tunisian regional fields with real cargo substance.
