## Description

FedEx Express alone lifts more than 100,000 metric tonnes a year through Seattle–Tacoma International (SEA/KSEA), over 41 percent of everything the airport handles. In 2024 SEA processed 460,062 tonnes of cargo, up 10.3 percent and its second-highest annual total on record. Operated by the Port of Seattle, the airport combines dedicated freighter operations with belly cargo carried on transpacific and Alaska passenger services; China Eastern became the seventh carrier to base freighter flights there. Alaska seafood, aerospace and technology components from the Puget Sound region and temperature-controlled shipments make up much of the traffic. The Port of Seattle has spent roughly US$20 million upgrading freighter parking and apron capacity. Shippers looking for alternatives usually consider Portland (PDX), about 280 km south, or Vancouver (YVR) in British Columbia, roughly 230 km north.
